Rockwell Automation has entered a deal to acquire the US-based intelligent track motion control technology provider Jacobs Automation for an undisclosed amount.

Rockwell Agrees to Buy Jacobs Automation

Following the acquisition, which is expected to close in January 2014, Jacobs Automation will be consolidated with Rockwell Automation's Architecture & Software segment.

Jacobs Automation offers motion control technology called the iTRAK System which offers better performance in packaging, material handling, and other applications for the global machine builder market.

Rockwell Automation motion control business vice president Victor Swint said the combination of iTRAK technology with the company's integrated architecture will be a game changer for machine builders.

"It will provide customers with new technology to enhance performance and flexibility so they can quickly respond to changing market demands," Swint said.

The technology is expected to increase productivity, reduce energy consumption and provide rapid changeovers by adjusting machine speed and geometry during operations.
