Indian dairy products maker Parag Milk Foods hopes to accelerate its cheese sales to Russia in light of the country’s growing demand amid Russian ban on imports of dairy products from Europe.

The company is considering expansion of cheese production from 40 tonnes per day to about 100 tonnes, according to Parag Milk Foods chairman Devendra Shah.

With cheese consumption in Russia estimated at about 250,000 tonnes per day, Parag Foods' cheese processing plant in Manchar in the west Indian state of Maharashtra can be expanded upto 200 tonnes per day.

Current Russian export demand itself is estimated to be around 500 tonnes per month.

As cited in Business Standard, Shah is bullish about the demand, saying: "We have India's largest cheese making capacity of 40 tonnes per day. The Russian demand is huge and with opening of Indian dairy products imports into Russia, there is big prospect for business."

Parag Foods registered a turnover of INR1,450 crore for the fiscal ending March 31, 2015. The company processes 20 lakh litres of milk per day at its two facilities in Pune and Andhra Pradesh.
