US based electric car maker Fisker Automotive is planning to set up a new Tech centre in southern Michigan which will be opened by the end of 2013.

The new tech centre is expected to produce Fisker's Atlantic sedan, which was planned to be built at the Delaware auto plant.

The proposed centre will be closer to its planned production plant in Wilmington, Delaware which the company had acquired for $18 million in 2010.

Fisker president and CEO Tony Posawatz said the new tech centre will bring its own engineering footprint closer to its supplier base and the expertise and professional workforce, and the Michigan location would bring Fisker closer to key component suppliers and low-emission technical expertise.

"It will also be closer to Fisker's intended production facility for the Atlantic in Delaware," Posawatz said.

Previously, the company had set up technical centre in Pontiac, Michigan that included design, engineering, sales, marketing and administrative operations.

In addition, the company is planning to announce the final location of the technical centre and staffing levels early next year.

Last month Fisker has announce that it will begin production of the Atlantic in 2014 or 2015, two years latter than the initial plan.
