Perstorp is increasing its investment in the bioplastics market by establishing a new pilot plant, extra technical resources and a new laboratory at Perstorp, Sweden.

Perstorp to Increase Investment in Bioplastics Market

The company spends more than 85% of its R&D resources on finding environmentally sound solutions.

Perstorp specializes in e-polycaprolactones (PCL) technology which it markets under the Capa brand.

The company said that the investments will help their customers to develop their business faster, while also reduce time-to-market and develop new products with bioplastic applications.

With the new plant, Perstorp will be able to produce new Capa grades for existing customers and enable the growth of its product line.

The new lab will be made into a caprolactone innovation center for the development of application to ensure the development of new formulations.

Perstorp project bioplastics manager Linda Zellner said: "We are increasing our competitiveness in bioplastics through these investments, which is a core focus area for the Perstorp Group. We intend to take a leading position in the development of new bioplastic products, since Capa(tm) Thermoplastics add significant value to biopolymer performance and end-of-life solutions."

The company said that bioplastics are increasingly being seen as the plastic of choice with the increase in awareness and this investment will help them broaden their biopolymer choice.

"Biopolymer formulators and producers will get a fast response to their specific Capa(tm) needs and then have access to a broader range of innovative sustainable options as the bioplastics application portfolio develops," added Zellner.
