According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending February 8, 2014, US domestic raw steel production was 1,839,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 76.8 percent. Production was 1,875,000 net tons in the week ending February 8, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 78.3 percent. The current week production represents a 1.9 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending February 8, 2014 is up 1.9 percent from the previous week ending February 1, 2014 when production was 1,804,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 75.3 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through February 8, 2014 was 10,174,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.2 percent. That is a 0.7 percent decrease from the 10,247,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.3 percent.
